Meet the Team
Ginnie
BlackCockatoo Dreadlocks is my baby and a surprise business as i Cheffed for 20 years and always thought i’d be in food…but as with life flowing nature the universe had other ideas for me and the birth and slow organic build of BCdreads took over. From our humble beginnings in the Hut on the mountain side we now have a well known studio in Newcastle with a beautiful and talented team working closely together.
As for myself I’m abit of a bush baby living on a small hobbie farm with too many animals with my beloved barefooted family.
Dreadlocks came about from my love of crafting when i used to weave, crochet and play with clay. My hands have always loved to be busy making and creating as long as the texture was interesting! being a tactile human its super important to feel though my hands….thus dreads and their woven entwined nature became and is ever fascinating to me.
I have always said to people its never been just about Dreadlocks but the journey you go on with people and the joy and creative flare that they bring to the wearer.

Ive grown up ‘farming dreads’ as I call it.
My family is full of them, with 4 out of 5 of us being Dreadheads.
Ive always had an affinity for rhythm, both in music and in life. I see this rhythm mirrored in the beauty of dreadlocks, so when Gin invited me into the Black Cockatoo nest, I flew in, stars aligned, ready to create some beauty and inspire some farming.
